Whether you’re gearing up for your first ski trip or upgrading your setup, your ski bindings play a crucial role in performance and safety. But not all ski bindings are the same, and not all shops offer the right service.
At The Fitting Mill, we offer both system binding setup and custom drill mounting, with expert fitting and proper adjustment. If you’ve bought skis online, inherited a pair, or are switching boots, this guide is for you.
What Are Ski Bindings and Why Are They Important?
Ski bindings connect your boots to your skis. They transfer energy and control while also protecting you in a fall. If they’re not mounted or adjusted properly, you risk poor performance, painful falls or even injury.
There are two main types of ski bindings we see in the workshop:
System Bindings
These are often found on beginner or intermediate skis and come mounted on a track. System bindings can slide and adjust to different boot lengths, making them convenient and quick to set up.
System binding setup includes:
- Adjusting the binding to match your boot size
- Setting the correct DIN release value
- Forward pressure and boot compatibility checks
Cost: £30
We can usually do this while you wait. Just bring both skis and at least one boot.
Drill-Mounted Bindings
Flat skis require bindings to be drilled and mounted directly into the ski. This setup is often used for performance skis, custom boot setups or bindings bought separately.
Drill mounting includes:
- Precision mounting using brand-specific templates
- Boot sole length measurement and alignment
- DIN setting and safety checks
- Verification of forward pressure and toe height
Cost: £60
This takes about an hour. We offer same-day turnaround when possible, or you can drop off and collect later.
Which Do You Need?
If your skis already have a built-in binding track, you likely need a system setup. If your skis are flat or you’ve chosen a separate binding model, you’ll need a full mount.
Not sure what you’ve got? Give us a call. We regularly work with Salomon, Atomic, Marker, Look and more. Some bindings and skis need extra care, so we’re happy to check.
Bought Your Skis Online or From a Resort?
No problem. We fit and mount bindings on gear bought elsewhere. Just bring in your skis and one of your boots so we can match them accurately.
This is especially important if you’re switching to new boots or changing skier type. A mismatched setup can ruin your trip or cause injury.
